Puja

The concept of Puja was started in the year 1993 by a few Indian families who wanted to maintain the religious sentiment in the Indian Community and to inculcate in the children the concepts of the Indian culture and heritage. Pujas are held in the first Friday or the Second Friday of every month at various houses.

After commencing the puja with the chanting of "Shuklambharadharam" a short prayer asking the Supreme God to give happiness, courage, health, wealth, good progeny and long life to everyone is chanted. Ashtothrams on Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Venkateshwara are always chanted in unison. Sometimes the chanting of Ashtothrams on the other Gods and Goddesses and the chanting of Sahasranamams like Vishnu Sahasranamam and Lalitha Sahasranamam appropriate to the occasion follow this. Then short Slokas and Bajans on various Gods and Goddesses are rendered after which Peace Prayers and Arthi follow. After the Prasadham is served the families take part in a Potluck Dinner. The hostess gives Haldi Kumkum / Thamboolam / Vethalai Paakku to the women participating in the puja.
